Anish Kapoor @ The Royal Academy - Reviewed by Del Hossain 20|11|09

Many film trailers begin with a gravelly voiced commentator, fueling one's expectations - with classic lines such as , 'if you only see one film this year......' In the case  of  'Anish Kapoor' this strapline really should be applied, except substituting the word movie for exhibition. This is a stunning show, a visual feast no less and one that could be seen as a lesson in handling enormous three dimensional forms, with confidence, which is then further heightened by an injection of bold and rich primary colours, in its simplest description.

Kapoor' s written announcement at the entrance to the show invites the onlooker to interpret these forms as they wish, but the violence  in pieces such as 'Shooting into the Corner,' and the solaciousness of 'The Slug,' makes the pieces clearly obvious in their message, and cunningly leads what would be your own objective views into the views of the artist. Kapoor has explored certain textures over a year and the Royal Academy's formidable personality lends itself as a perfect backdrop, in some cases with the building hurting itself.  Over the year Kapoor has examined and interpreted wax texture as a metaphor'curvy' shapes and 'presence' through volume and space. The richness of this show is unlike the past fashions in modern art - where the messages are in the hidden meaning -instead Kapoor's narrative is in the obvious nature of the spectacle.

In a nutshell a superb exhibition that you can still catch right up until the end of this year.
