Now open: LFA 2008 - Beginnings with John McAslan + Partners 19|06|08

John McAslan + Partners and the dreamspace gallery have teamed up to present an exhibition as part of this years LFA.  Sponsored by the AJ and Adrem, the exhibition brings to life a selection of the RIBA/ICE McAslan Bursary's extraordinary projects. The humble ideas of students and graduates become reality through the Bursary, which supports the development of collaborative projects that bring about social and community improvements throughout the UK and overseas.

The exhibition will feature a selection of those that came to fruition, offering an insight into the diversity, commitment and implicit humanity that floods each one of them. Detailed drawings, beautiful photographs and prototype models will allow the viewer to discover a profound spirit prevalent in architectural research and experiment. The projects selected for ‘Beginnings’ highlight the opportunities available for social change, improving the quality of urban life and engaging communities in the implementation of design.

The exhibition will run from 16 June to 25 July 2008. Private view Wednesday 18 June, 6.30pm to 9.00pm.

Adrem has been a sponsor of the LFA from its humble beginnings and continues to be an official supporter this year. For more, click here.

An intimate session with John McAslan + Partners 19|06|08

The second of Adrems Intimate Sessions will take place during the Clerkenwell and City hub for the London Festival of Architecture on 17th July 2008. Nicely scheduled to take place before the Clerkenwell Party on the Green, John McAslan + Partners will present a short talk to coincide with their exhibition at the dreamspace gallery, Beginnings: Projects from the RIBA/ICE McAslan Bursary.  Previous Bursary winners Julia King and Asif Khan will share the experiences of their project, One-Year House, which provided refugee housing on the Thailand-Burma border. The presentation and  and Q&A will give our small audience an opportunity to learn more about the  Bursary  scheme and  explore the effects the  Bursary has had on improving  life in deprived communities in the UK and overseas. Hear how these small-scale interventions have kick-started larger-scale projects, such as a programme to design schools in Malawi.  Join us for a glass of wine and to celebrate the dreamspace gallery's first birthday. Places are limited to keep it intimate and are by reservation only. Contact Chloe Brooks at chloeb@adrem.uk.com for more information.

Breaking through mental health barriers 12|06|08

Community Views at St James House in Camden will hold its first exhibition at the dreamspace gallery, London, to raise awareness of the work they do to combat the stigma associated with people suffering from mental health disabilities. The extraordinary social enterprise, known for its services in graphic design, print and framing, will present an exhibition of works from well known and emerging talent from Camden and Islington.

Jewels of the North to shine in a bid to conquer the capital 22|05|08

Year on year, Newcastle University’s School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape produces some exceptional, prize winning graduate talent. Talent that goes on to work for the likes of Foster & Partners, Grimshaw, Field & Clegg Bradley and emerging practices such as Collado Collins.  For the second year running, self selected Part II students will travel to London to present themselves to the industry and a wider public by exhibiting their final project work at Adrem’s dreamspace gallery. Open to professionals and the public alike, the show of work by Newcastle’s RIBA Part II graduates will feature selected drawings illustrating the essence of their Design Thesis work. Projects range from a winery to urban abattoir and promise to exemplify the innovative, multidisciplinary approach to research and design we have come to expect from Newcastle University. The exhibition will take place between 28 July and 8 August 2008. To attend the private view on 31 July, email chloeb@adrem.uk.com.
